SPACE Therapy (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions)

SPACE is helpful when your child is struggling with behavioural issues at home or school, difficulties regulating their emotions, separation, social, or generalized anxiety, specific phobias or fears, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, or neurodivergence. We work to identify patterns, triggers, strengths and weaknesses in the family system that are contributing to your child's difficulties. We develop tools to respond more supportively and to reduce accommodations that ultimately worsen their symptoms by reinforcing their fears. 

 

Recognizing anxiety in children/adolescents:

Issues falling asleep or staying asleep               

Difficulty sleeping alone

Nightmares                

High physical need, cannot be without you or needs to be physically touching you

Requires frequent or persistant reassurance                

Recurrent worries or extreme worries/fears

Low mood or low self-esteem                

Negative self-talk

Complaining of not feeling well that is not related to illness or medical condition (sore stomach, headache, tired, or sore muscles)

Restlessness, fidgeting often                

Anger, irritability, or easily frustrated              

Appetite changes (over or under eating) 

Refusing to go to school or extra curricular activity                

Frequent use of bathroom (not related to medical condition)

Sadness or crying                

Emotional outbursts or becoming uncontrollable

Fee: $160 per 50-minute session.
